KSA Integration, as part of a team led by prime contractor Applied Research Associates (ARA), was recently awarded the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Under Secretary for Science & Technology’s Award for Innovation.

The System of Systems Operational Analysis (SoSOA) project, for which this award was given, has enabled DHS to improve mission outcomes using less time and less resources, combining cross-component operational data and analytic tools in a “system of systems” approach. SoSOA improves analytic processes by providing the right tools, data, and training for enhanced, evidence-based decisions within components and across the homeland security enterprise. The SoSOA team used a demonstration project approach to elicit analytic and system requirements, identify immediate component problems, and design a virtual collaborative environment to meet longer-term cross-component needs. By incorporating the best data, analytic tools, and training available, SoSOA reduces analysis time and helps executives make smarter operational and investment decisions across the diverse homeland security enterprise.

Kate Gibson Boyd, JD, a veteran KSA Integration employee who managed two demonstration projects, expressed her excitement for this award: “Team ARA has done exceptional work on this project and I’m proud to be a part of its success. DHS is more agile and efficient because of SoSOA and I look forward to continuing to improve the department’s operational analysis capabilities.”

Team ARA accepted this award on November 13th, 2018 at the National Association of Home Builders Auditorium in Washington, D.C.
